Shaul Dahan

Shaul Dahan is a composer, sound artist, and music collector who combines texts and prayers from religious ritual with analog modular synthesizers and singing inspired by cantorial traditions. Dahan is a graduate of the New Music Department at Musrara, and the work “Structural Neurosis” was presented at Ars Electronica in Linz.

On saga.domaine: the debut album Seventy Faces (2024) is a work about religious worship in five scenes, combining autobiographical recordings with generative processes on analog and digital modular systems. “Dinin” and “Davening” address longing for God and the loss of self, while “Ashamnu” and “Achat Veachat” turn to the compulsive repetition of devotion and confession. “Hacoines” starts from a childhood cassette of the artist memorizing phrases from the Torah, multiplied into many voices through a Max patch influenced by Steve Reich’s phasing.
